Born in New River County, which is now Baker County, to Mrs. Mary THOMPSON Sweat (widow of James SWEAT, CSA). Her father, James SWEAT, was still alive in 1866 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was on the roll of "refugees and deserters" from City Point, Virginia, by Provost Marshal General, Washington, DC, transported to Jacksonville, Fla and placed in prison there.
