To the memory of Anna, the beloved w/o Mr. Nicholas Lingan of Georgetown, Merchant, she was the d/o Samuel Hanson of Charles County, state of Maryland, Esquire, was married on the 28th day of October 1789 and left issue an infant daughter only. Medical skill was exerted without effect, the waters of Augusta were used in vain, in vain were many more efforts made to save the beloved Anna from an untimely grave. She suffered a long and painful malady and meekly submitted to the will of the Almighty who at Poplar Hill put an early end to the virtuous valuable life of this amiable woman and on the 13th day of January 1793 at the age of 27 years, in testimony an affection which death could not destroy, and as a tribute to virtue that did honor to her sex, he who was supremely happy as her husband erected this too humble monument in the year 1794.
