Ruben Braud, 91, of rural Battle Lake, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at his home in Eagle Lake Township where he had lived his entire life.

He was born March 24, 1916, in Eagle Lake Township, rural Battle Lake, to Lars and Karen (Eastvold) Braud. He attended rural School District 6 and after completing school began farming.

On March 6, 1942, Ruben entered the U.S. Army and served in the Southern Philippines where he worked as an electrician installing and maintaining military telephone and telegraph station equipment. He was honorably discharged Oct. 3, 1945. He was a member of the 41st Infantry Division Association Min-Dak Chapter.

On Dec. 30, 1950, Ruben married Verna Smedsrud at Bethel Lutheran Church where he has been a life-long member. Ruben and Verna farmed together for many years and continued to farm with their son, David, until the time of Ruben's death.

Ruben served as president of Bethel Church for several years and was also on the Ashby Farmers Equity Board and the District 6 School Board.

He enjoyed doing wood crafts and helping with construction projects. He also enjoyed having his faithful dog, Daisy, by his side and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Verna; four children, Roland (Diane) Braud, LuAnn (Larry) Martinson, David (Debra) Braud and Linda (Paul) Roberts; 10 grandchildren, Tanya (Eric) Carter, Travis (Melanie) Braud, Todd Braud, Laura (Justin) Bohan, Andrew Martinson, Amanda and Stephanie Braud, Wynn, Conrad and Kelci Roberts; a sister, Inga Braud of the Pioneer Home in Fergus Falls; and a sister-in-law, Pearl Braud of West St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Garman, Mark, Jacob, Joseph, Conrad, Bertha and Jeanette.

Visitation: Monday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Battle Lake

Clergy: Rev. Thomas Junkert

Burial: Church Cemetery with military honors provided
Peterson-Tripp American Legion Post 357 of Ashby
