~ Antonia S. Ortiz Obituary ~
Antonia Serrano Ortiz, 62, of Longview, passed away June 6, 2009, at St. John Medical Center.
She was born June 13, 1946, in Jalisco, Mexico, to Tomas and Joanes Ortiz. Toni graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1964, received an associate's degree in science and biology from Imperial Valley College in Imperial, Calif., and attended San Diego State University in Calexico, Calif.
Toni was a quality control supervisor for Holly Sugar Corp., and worked in the soil lab of USDA Agriculture Research Service, both in Brawley. She lived in the local area for more than 25 years, where she worked for a nursing facility in both laundry and housekeeping, at Jack in the Box and Columbia Analytical Services Inc.
Toni was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, participating in the MMP Prayer Group and Faith of Our Father's Prayer Group. She spent many hours serving at Community House on Broadway, with Detention Ministry and as an adult caregiver.
Toni was intelligent, selfless and a great neighbor. She loved to sing, read, watch football, go for walks and loved her cat.
She is survived by a brother, Sal Ortiz, and a sister, Francis Molina, both of Brawley, and many nieces and nephews.
A recitation of the rosary will be held at 8 a.m. and a memorial Mass at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose Catholic Church. A reception will follow. Burial will take place at Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community House on Broadway.
