The son of August and Louise Holtzbauer, he was born Aug. 25, 1894, in Friberg Township. He grew up on the farm homesteaded by his father in Friberg Township.
He married Edith Nehk in 1915. Moving to Maine Township in 1939, he farmed there until his retirement in 1958 and continued to live there until December 1981, when he moved to the Otter Tail Lake Nursing Home. His wife died in 1967.
He was the last survivor of his parents' 15 children.
Visitation is Tuesday evening, all day Wednesday, Wednesday evening and Thursday morning at the funeral home.
