Sylvanus Joiner was born in 1784 in Ira, Rutland, Vermont, to Captain Asahel Joiner and Eunice (last name unknown). Sylvanus was married on Thursday, 1 December 1808, to Beulah Smith, daughter of Nathaniel Smith, III, and Abigail Stevens, in Cattaraugus, Allegany, NY., by Beulah's brother Cyrus Smith, Baptist minister, who performed the ceremony. Sylvanus died on 30 December 1866 at age 82 years and is buried in the Joiner Cemetery. He was a 40 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Mayfield Church.
