Birth: Apr. 25, 1857
Box Elder County

Death: Oct. 4, 1857
Box Elder County
Utah, USA

Infant daughter of John Newman Ist Barker and his 2nd wife, Claudine Frances Camelia Adams [Whiton] [Sagers]. John & 1st wife, Mary Ann Maria Smart had brought their family from Coventry, Warwickshire, England, leaving Liverpool 6 April 1853 on the sailing vessel the "Camillus" to New Orleans. Eventually (1 July 1853), traveling with Captain John Brown's Company of Saints, they walked most of the way to the Salt Lake Valley, arriving 16 October 1853.

Living in Salt Lake City until fall of 1855, they had already buried several children in England and along the way.

They were in Willard (which was then called Willow Creek) by winter of 1856. On 22 February 1857 John Newman Barker married in polygamy the divorcee, known as "Camelia" Adams, who was pregnant with her second child of ex-husband, William Henry Harrison Sagers. John adopted little Mary Ann at her birth & also her three year old sister, Eliza Jane.

It is note worthy that as Barker adopted the girls, they named this little one after his first wife, Mary Ann Maria Smart.

Little Mary Ann died 5 months later & John wrote in his journal that his tiny daughter had died at 3 o'clock & then he wrote: "Rest in peace sweet babe until the resurrection morn; And then will burst the bond of death and call sweet Mary forth."

Three days later he wrote: "October 7, 1857: Died John Newman Barker, son of John N. and Mary Barker in North Willow Creek, buried in the same grave with Mary Ann. Age 10 months 17 days." He then wrote:

"Snatched from the earth to meet its God; a flower, a gem, a prize... A glittering star to shine on high among the sanctified... Two brothers there, two sisters dear... Four playmates you will find...But don't forget amongst the rest... The friends you left behind."

There is no stone here to mark the little graves at this date. Both children are memorialized on the J. N. [John Newman] BARKER family stone at Willard Precinct Cemetery, where all three parents were interred.
