David was born to Abner William Wilson & Sarah Hanner. He was very young when his parents died. In 1850 guardianship of his brother, sister and him to William Ireland, his brother-in-law. He married Mary Adaline Sanderson, daughter of Clark and Phebe (Webb) Sanderson, on 19 Dec 1861 in Brownstown, Jackson, Indiana. Adaline also lost her mother at a very early age. To this union was born: John A, Della May and Bartholomew D "Barton".
In 1860 David age 22 is residing with William and Sarah (Wilson) Ireland. Sarah may have been his sister. Also in the same household is John Wilson age 19 who may be a brother.
On July 28, 1862 he writes a letter from Brownstown, Indiana to William Ireland's brother David Ireland. In the letter he states "My wife is Adaline, sister of Phebe Jane [Sanderson]." He also mentions in the letter that his wife's sister, Julie, is living with them as her husband is in the service.
On March 21, 1862 Mary [Wilson] Ireland in Brownstown, Indiana writes to Mary A [Sanderson] Ireland and states: "Tell [Phebe] Jane that Dave Wilson is her brother-in-law now; he married Adaline [Sanderson] Dec. 19th."
On September 26, 1862 David writes: "I am now living in the county jail, keeping the prisoners."

"Comes Joseph E. Stillwell, guardian of the persons and Estate of Lucinda, David, and John Wilson, minor heirs of Abner and Sarah Wilson, deceased, and on his motion he is discharged from the duties and trusts devolving upon him as such guardian,---Whereupon on motion of William Ireland, he is appointed guardian of said minor heirs, instead of the Joseph E. Stillwell resigned---The said William Ireland entered into bond in the sum of one hundred dollars, with James Ireland his security, payable to the State of Indiana and conditioned according to law, is duly authorized to take upon himelf the guardianship of said wards---all of which is by the court duly approves and confirms."
