J.D. Alexander, a Baptist pastor, died Monday, July 11, 2011. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at South Euless Baptist Church, 1000 Simmons Drive, Euless. Interment: 3 p.m. Thursday in Payne Springs Cemetery in Payne Springs. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Ridge Funeral Home In Hurst. Memorials: South Euless Baptist Church, 1000 Simmons Drive, Euless, Texas, or Bible Baptist Church, Box 1495, Gainesville, Texas 76241, in lieu of flowers.

The Rev. J.D. Alexander was born March 17, 1923, in Eustace and resided in Euless for 34 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy where he flew in blimps and was a barber by training. After the Navy, he pursued his true love of ministry. He pastored his first church in 1952, College Fort Baptist Church in College Fort. He became interium pastor in 1999 and full-time pastor of South Euless Baptist in 2000. J.D. retired from South Euless Baptist in 2005 but preached his last message the night before his death from his hospital bed. He was most recently a faithful member of Baptist Bible Church in Gainesville. J.D. will forever be remembered as a true and honorable man of God. J.D. was preceded in death by his daughters, Sandura Kay Alexander Martin and Tamira Gaye Alexander; son, Stephen Paul Alexander; his loving wife of 66 years, Myrtle Lee Alexander; and his brother, Leon Alexander and wife Betty.

Survivors: Son, Jerry Dean Alexander and wife, Becky, of Houston; grandchildren, Stephen Paul Alexander II and wife, Cari, of Hurst, Robert Anthony Martin and wife, Rhonda, of Plano and Tonya Leigh Martin of Greensville; great-grandchildren, William Floyd Alexander of Hurst and Mikayla Colby Martin of Plano; aunt, Idel Davis of Payne Springs; caregivers, Tom and Donna Goodson and Bob and Eloise Carlock; and a host of friends and extended family members whom he loved greatly.
