Howard Baustian, 60, Hardwick died Sunday, March 15, 1998 in his home in Hardwick. Funeral services were held Friday, March 20, 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Hardwick. The Rev. Leland Bendix officiated. Burial followed in the Luverne Memorial Gardens, rural Luverne. Howard Harry Baustian was born to Harry and Dorothy (Petersen) Baustian on April 17, 1937, in Luverne. He was raised and attended country school near Hardwick. He later attended school in Hardwick and Luverne. Following his education he worked for various farmers in the area. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1960. He was stationed overseas in Germany. He married Janyce A. Braa on January 27, 1963, in Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. The couple lived in California where he was stationed with the Army. They later moved to Rapid City, SD, where he received his honorable discharage in 1964. He worked as a carpenter in the Black Hills area until October 1970 when they returned to Hardwick. He worked in the Hardwick area as a carpenter for various contractors as well as being self-employed. He had worked at Design Craft in Luverne for the last nine years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. He was a life member of Dell Hogan Post # 123 of the American Legion in Luverne. He enjoyed fishing at nearby lakes with family and friends. He had worked in nearly every home in Hardwick with his carpentry. Survivors include his wife, Janyce Baustian, Hardwick; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Anthony C. and Rochelle Baustian, Rapid City, and Donald R. baustian, Hardwick; three grandchildren, Lyndon C. Baustian, Shawna and Trista Maher, all of Rapid City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Tanya Baustian, Gateville, Texas and Robert and Eunice Sibson, Kingman, Arizona; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Charlotte and Terry Brower, Rock Rapids, Iowa, Mary Bechler, Kingman, and Patty Baustian, California; an aunt, Elmora "Toots" Petersen, Hardwick and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Baustian, Kenneth and Dorothy Sibson, a granddaughter, Lindsay J. Baustian, a brother, Harley Baustian, and a brother-in-law, Bill Bechler.
