Gertrude King Appleby, of Mt. Pleasant, widow of Milton Allen Appleby, entered into eternal rest on the evening of June 19, 2011.

Mrs. Appleby was born October 15, 1917 in Mt. Pleasant, SC, the daughter of Langdon Cheves King and Emily Ann Hamlin King.

She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was the treasurer of Lambreth-McEldowney Circle and Sunshine Chairman.

Mrs. Appleby was a graduate of Memminger High School and Rice Business College in Charleston. She was on the swimming team at Memminger.

She was employed at the Port of Embarkation during World War II and was employed at the Citizens and Southern National Bank where she was an Officer's Assistant.

Mrs. Appleby is survived by her step-daughter: Ann Appleby MacMillian (Ben); niece: Nancy King Longest (Ben); nephew: Langdon Cheves King, III (Louise).

She was preceded in death by her niece, Ann King Barbero (Timothy).

The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services in J. Henry Stuhr, Downtown Chapel, June 23, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment, St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
