Michael grew up in Bemidji and attended Bemidji Middle School and High School. As a teenager, he was in a band called "Nerds on Tricycles." Their performances helped make money for the skate park in Bemidji. After graduation, he owned and operated Nymore Crew Roofing for two years.
He enjoyed being a musician, skate boarding, hunting and fishing, cars and football. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
