The placement of this headstone for Sarah J. Dickinson at Bessie Chapel AME Church Cemetery is a genuine mystery.

Sarah J. Dickinson was born, raised and died in Beaufort, Carteret County, NC per her Death Certificate Record and census records. I have not been able to make any connection that would place her in Anson County, NC.

There is also a headstone for her at Live Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Beaufort, Carteret County, NC. A grave marker for Sarah J Dickinson was inventoried by George and Sherri Lewis, Feb-Mar 2006 at the Live Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery at Russell's Creek. Source: The Carteret County Cemetery Book, Robert G. Lewis, PhD. editor, Carteret County Historical Society, Inc., 2007 CD version. The grave is next to her sisters Lila and Lavinia. The inscription for Toney Smith that is on a shared headstone placed at Bessie Chapel AME Church Cemetery appears to not have been done at the same time and is a different style inscription from Sarah's.
