John Crockett Anderson, 79, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at his home in Marion.
After graduating from Rich Valley High School, he served his country in two branches of the military, the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, until his retirement. He served his country well, traveling extensively in the states and overseas, having completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. He served on the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C., for several years. Throughout his life, he maintained his wonderful sense of humor, joy and zest for life itself. He loved the Lord and taking care of his home and yard. His family will greatly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Arlie and Mary Thelma Anderson; two brothers, Arlie Holmes Anderson and Robert M. Anderson; and one sister, Shirley Anderson Helton.
Survivors include one brother, Neal Anderson and wife, Minnie Ann, of Marion; two sisters, Dorothy A. Stevenson of Rich Valley and Linda A. Doyle of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Arthur Chapman and John's nephew, Kevin Anderson, officiating. Interment followed in Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley with military rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family received friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
