Robert Eugene Adams, Sr. was born in Logansport; Cass County, Indiana to parents Gerald and Thelma Adams. He graduated from Logansport High School Class of 1958; United States Navy 1958 until 1960 when he became disabled while serving. He worked with Children's Hospital, Dempster Brothers, and later joined AEC in Oak Ridge ERDA DOE. He gave much of his time to Burlington Lodge #763; Knoxville Scottish Rite; Past Master at Cherokee Lodge #728 and President of District 20 officer association in 1998. He was a life time member of the DAV, Chapter 24 and a member of Eastern Star #437. He worked in many volunteer capacities: planning the first Masonic habitat home in the U.S.A., raising money to build several other habitat homes and with Fort Sanders Auxiliary as a volunteer in the recovery room. He received many awards including The K.C.C. H. honorary degree at Knoxville Scottish Rite, honorary member of Charles H. McKinney Lodge #433 and honorary membership of CHOTA Lodge #253. He was a member of The Knoxville Scottish Rite 3rd Degree team. His loves were for traveling East Tennessee watching new Masons receive their degrees; serving in The Maudy Thursday Services, 14th and 32nd Degree services and for gardening as a Master Gardner from U.T. Agriculture School. Robert was a longtime member of West Lonsdale Baptist Church and as a missionary of Hillcrest West Nursing Home. Robert Eugene Adams, Sr., 65, went to be with the Lord, Monday, June 19, 2006 at home after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Those left to mourn his passing are his loving, devoted, lifetime partner and best friend of 46 years, Peggy Boyd Adams; three children, Deborah Denton and husband, Gregory of Salem, Virginia. Robert Adams, Jr. and fiancÚ, Michelle Sims of Kodak; Sevier County, Tennessee and Stephen Adams and wife Amy of Powell; Knox County, Tennessee. Three grandchildren, Allison and Andrew Denton and Trevor Adams; sister, Barbara Jones and husband, Raymond of Avon, Indiana; brother, John Adams of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews and his beloved pet, Peyton. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Thelma Adams; brother, Richard Adams; and son, Timothy Gerald Adams. May they rest in peace. Family and friends will meet at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Tennessee Veterans' Cemetery for an 11:30 a.m. graveside service with Pastor Todd Halliburton officiating and full military honors. He would like the following organizations to be honorary pallbearers: Burlington Lodge #763, Knoxville Scottish Rite, Cherokee Lodge #128, Charles McKinney #433 and CHOTA #253. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday with a Masonic service by Cherokee Lodge #728 Lodge F&AM, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. The family would like to thank Hospice Staff at Covenant Health for their kindness and compassion during his long illness, especially Lynn Merle, Mary, Laura, Missy, Tabitha, Ernie, Cindy and Candace. Mr. Adams will also always remember Dr. Darrell Thomas' compassion in helping him deal with the battle against ALS.
