Ernest Pederson, 89, of Plummer, MN died on Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 2:00 PM in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Reverend Robert Paulson Officiating. Burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery near Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church only.
Ernest Kermit Pederson was born November 18, 1911 at Munich, ND son of the late Edward and Carrie (Strom) Pederson. He moved to Bemidji, MN with his family at a young age. He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1931. On June 5, 1940 he was married to Dorothy Luxemburg at Bemidji, MN. He was employed at the Bemidji Boat Factory for 4 years. He entered the US Army on February 2, 1944 and served during WWII. He departed for overseas May 27, 1945 and served as a carpenter with the 1631st Engineer Construction Battalion. Following his honorable discharged on May 18, 1946 he returned to Terrebonne where the couple farmed. In 1960 they moved to Plummer, MN where they have since resided. He worked at Detroiter Homes in Red Lake Falls for many years.
Ernie was very active in the Plummer community, serving as chairman of the Plummer Farmers Union Local, 4-H leader, served on the township board, was mayor, worked as a policeman, was the Plummer American Legion Commander for 6 years, Senior Citizens Housing, Secretary and Treasurer, served on the Commercial Club, was on the church council and served as president. He was the Union President for Detroiter Mobile Home Employees, President of the Northwest Regional Development Board of Aging and was Chairman of the Executive of the Lutheran Social Services meals program. Ernest was named Red Lake County Senior Citizen.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Pederson of Thief River falls, MN; children Beverly (Harold) Waldal of Milwaukee, WI; Linda (Michael) King of Milwaukee, WI; Judy (Wally) Nyland of Seattle, WA; Richard (Debbie) Pederson of Milwaukee, WI and Donna (Ken) Wisniewski of Milwaukee, WI. Grandchildren Jeff Waldal, Doug Waldal, Craig King, Michelle King, Christopher Nyland and Cory Pederson. One great-grandchild Dayne Waldal. One sister Alvina Knauer of Bemidji, MN and one brother Hilmer Pederson of Bemidji, MN. He is also survived by many relatives and friends.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leonard Pederson and Oscar Pederson: sisters Clara Titus and Hilda Pederson.
