FUNERAL HELD SATURDAY FOR EX-SHERRIF W. J. JACKSON SR.

" Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Third St. residence for W. J. Jackson Sr.
who died Thursday in a Norfolk hospital after having undergone a minor operation. A complication of diseases was the case of his demise. Preparation were being made before his death to perform a major operation as soon as his condition would permit.
The Rev. W. E. Norris, pastor of the local Christian Church, assisted by the Rev. R. G. L. Edwards, pastor of the Methodist Church read the rites. Internment was made in the family plot on Third Street in the cemetery on the site at the rear of where the old baptist Church used to stand.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the Charitable Brotherhood Lodge at Dardens; the Woodmen of the World Knights of Pythias and Masonic organizations. Since early childhood he had been a member of the Baptist Church. He was an officer in the Roanoke Riflemen organization here years ago.
After growing to manhood Mr. Jackson became interested in politics and served as sheriff of
Washington County for about nine years. For some years he was a member of the board of trustees of the local school, and had served as councilman.
Preceeded to his grave about two years ago by two children he became interested in philanthropy and aided the orphans much, rearing two or three in his home. His wife died about a year and a half ago.
Surviving Mr. Jackson are three sons, E. R. and W. J., Jr. of Plymouth; and Charlie Jackson, of Washington; one daughter, Mrs. W. B. Cox, of Plymouth."
