MILLERSTOWN - Warren Harvey 'Pap' Ferguson, 81, of Millerstown, entered into eternal rest early Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, 2003, at his residence. He had been seriously ill since Jan. 5, 2003.
Born July 4, 1921, in Dimmsville, he was a son of the late Harvey and Alice (Cox) Ferguson. He was first married to Emma I. Cramer, who preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 1979. He then married the former Carolyn G. Long on Nov. 15, 1980, she survives.
Also surviving are: four sons, Russel W. "Buck" Ferguson and wife, Lucille, RR1 Thompsontown, Harold W. "Bill" Ferguson and wife, Lana, RR1 Thompsontown, Dennis E. Maize and wife, Peggy, Landisburg, and James E. Maize, Butler; a daughter, Fay A. "Sis" Troutman and husband, Dale, RR1 Thompsontown; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 4 generations of nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family having been preceded in death by: a grandson, Russel W. Ferguson Jr.; a brother, Frescolyn Ferguson; and three sisters, Ethel Myers, Charlotte Troutman, and Grace Ferguson, in childhood.
He was educated at Bethlehem Grammar schoolhouse.
He retired in 1983 from D.E. Smith Construction Company, Mifflintown, where he was employed as an equipment operator for many years. Previously he worked as a grader operator for various companies. He was engaged in farming his entire life.
He was the road master and supervisor for Greenwood Twp., Juniata County, for many years and had served as Trustee for Bethlehem Cemetery Association for many years.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, RR1 Richfield, and the Millerstown Ambulance League. He always placed his family first on his listing of priorities, he loved and cherished his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church, RR1 Richfield, with Rev. Timothy W. Bingman officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, RR2 Millerstown.
Family and friends will gather for the viewing from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills.
