Slipper was a Lopsp Apso Pekinees puppy. The kids would tell you that in 2002 we were in Spokane and we stopped by the pet store to "look" at all the animals. I am NOT a dog person so when Nicole saw me holding a puppy she ran outside to tell Rick(who was having a cigarette) RUN!! Mom is holding a puppy! The salesperson put the puppy on the floor and commented how he looked like a Christmas Slipper running across the foor. The name stuck. Slipper came home. When I went on a trip to Montana to visit Nick who was living with Grandpa and Grandma Burgess. Slipper rode the whole way on my chest looking out the window. Problem was when he was full grown he wanted to do the same thing. That summer we had some friends staying with us and they didn't come home so I left the door unlocked for them. About 3-4am Slipper started barking and barking and barking. I yelled up Slipper shut up it's just Mike and Toni. Finally I got up and was going up the stairs when someone ran down the stairs at me and pushed me down the stairs Slipper who was only 4 months old on his heels. We had alot of good times and alot of rough times but he was always there. After my car accident he started sleeping on the arm of the recliner I slept in everynite. When I got stuck away from him he stopped eating. He use to sit up like a goper with his little arms up. We swore he looked like a Ewoke, a nickname was born. One thing we will ALL miss is Slipper waiting for us to come home. If you were lucky you would get a woo, woo. If you got 2or 3 woo, woo's you were Very lucky. He loved Rick to rub his ears.
He was fercily protective but I guess that is what they used to be bred for. Tibeaten Gaurd Dog to protect the inside of their palaces. Tho our home was no palace Slipper took hid job seiously. Our best friends would not even come in our house without us because Slipper was at the door. He soon got the nickname Demon Dog because he would wag his tail and bite your hand off at the same time. Not even Rick or the kids would pet him if he was on my lap. This Summer somehow Slipper got out. I was in Montana, Rick was in Oregon and Nick at home. Nick went looking for him, finally I told him to call the dog pound. Sure enough Slipper was there. It was going to cost me #80.00 because he had not had his shots this year. But if I didn't get him out today it would cost me $25.00 for everyday he was there, So I sent Nick on his bike to get him with one of our checks. I suggested to the personnel they might let Nick get Slipper because he was not fond of other people. They laughed and said NO LIE! I told them his Nickname was Demon Dog. They agreed it fit him. So Nick got the Dog but hadn't brought anything to lead him home with. So here is Nick on His bike holding Slipper trying to ride home 2 miles. I would of loved a picture!
About 6 weeks ago when we came home from an appointment Slipper was whining, not long after he started yelping and crying. I called 8 vets they could hear him in the background crying yet wanted a $200.00 deposit to see him. 2 weeks later I took him to a vet and she said Slipper had literally had been beaten half to death. He had numerous brusing, 3 broken ribs and 1 front leg cracked and one back leg cracked. But she couldn't see that he had any internal injuries and felt if we kept him as still as we could. He would heal. That was 3 weeks ago. Slipper has cried almost every nite since. He had not healed. So I took my best friend an did what was best for him. I am glad he is out of pain and I'm sure I will cry many times for this friend, this family member, this dog that took protecting us seriosly. I love you Slipper see you in Heaven.
