Berkhousen, Gary L. (68) of Blanchard, Id passed away Thursday October 12, 2006 at his home in Blanchard.
Gary was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After High School at the age of seventeen he joined the Air Force. While in the Air Force Gary served as an MP, a weapons instructor and was in supervisory management. A lot of his time in the Air Force was spent working as a councilor. Gary also served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1976. After being discharged the family moved to Blanchard, Idaho. While living in Blanchard Gary attended Spokane Falls Community College and later Eastern Washington University earning degrees in Criminology and Sociology. After College Gary went to work as a Director of Social Services in Spokane and at Newport Community Hospital. He retired at about the age of 63. he was a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoyed The outdoors, Hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and attending gun shows. Gary is survived by his Fiance, JoAnn Wheeler of Spirit Lake, Id; his children, Tina (and John) Jeffrey of Hayden, Id, Brenda (and Chris) Hackworthy of Coeur D' Alene, Id, Doug (and Betty) Berkhousen of Blanchard, Id, Holly (and Jack) Miller of Coeur D' Alene, Id and Devin Berkhousen of Blanchard, Id, two brothers; Gordon (and Mary Lou) Berkhousen and Phillip (and Patricia) Berkhousen both of Michigan. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 1:00PM at the Blanchard Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home and Crematory In Newport, Wa is in charge of arrangements.
