|Birth: ||Sep. 9, 1865, Norway|
|Death: ||Jan. 11, 1903|
The death of Mrs. Iver T. Bakke occurred at the family home in Severance, on Sunday evening at nine o'clock, after an illness of only eight hours, death resulting from heart failure.
The sad news was unexpected and cast a gloom over the entire neighborhood. A mother, in the prime of life, has passed away, and seven children and a husband are bereft of her loving care. It is sad, indeed, but God in His infinate wisdom has so ordained, and those that are left behind find solice in knowing that she has gone to her eternal home, and has left the toil and strife of this life forever.
The deceased was born in Norway in 1865, and came to this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rasmuson, thirty two years ago, settling near Norseland, where they resided for three years, when they moved to their farm in Severence, four miles southeast of Gibbon. She was united in marriage to Iver T. Bakke in 1883 and they lived on his farm in Severence for nine years when they moved to Bird Island, where he engaged in the general merchandise business and was quite successful. On account of the wife's poor health, they returned to the farm and have resided there since. She however soon recovered, and since enjoyed good health.
Eight children were the result of the union; one, a daughter having died fifteen years ago. The deceased leaves also a mother, four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Boren, of Alfsborg, Mrs. Chas. Melquist, of Palmyra, Renville Co., Mrs. Ole Helseth, and Mrs. Emil Youngquist, of Minneapolis; one brother, Rasmus Peterson, of Hector. Two sisters, one brother and a father have passed away before her.
The funeral, which was attended by about 200 friends, and relatives, took place from the Norwegian Lutheran church. Rev. R. H. Ronglie, officiating. The floral offerings were beautiful. Among the many tokens of love was a beautiful wreath presented by the Woodman lodge of Gibbon, to which the husband was a member.
