The headstone was recorded in the 1950s by the Local Chapter N.S.D.A.R. for the DAR's "Louisiana Tombstone Inscriptions" series, Vol. 6, Page 163. The only directions indicated were: "Records from Private Cemetery on Griffin Farm - just east of Drive-In Theatre, East Carroll Parish, Louisiana."
Shown on the 1850 Carroll Parish census with wife Mary and children John, Charles, Sarah and Emma. He was a planter from Virginia.
On the 1860 Carroll Parish census, his widow Mary and the above children (except eldest John) are still in the household. There is an additional daughter, nine years old, named Elizabeth S.
William's Daughter in law Estelle (married son Charles J.) is also buried in this cemetery.
