Note that Simon's father's name was PROBABLY John OR William OR Simon, surmised because of naming patterns in the John and William Elliott families.

The Elliott Families 1762 - 1911 by Simon Elliott [nephew of Simon, d. 1845], Princeton, IL 1911, p. 22:
"Simon Elliott, who was a survivor of the wreck of the Faithful Steward, after living several years in PA and [Brooke Co] VA, came west and located at the mouth of Coperas Creek, in Fulton County, Illinois, about five miles from Canton. The country was then new, land was cheap, and the rate of interest on money was high. He bought land at government prices, loaned money and became wealthy. He had no family, lived and died a bachelor, and his estate which was settled by his nephew, John Elliott, was divided among the children of his brothers, William and John, sixteen of them in all."

Simon's estate and other records support the above statements about Simon Elliott:

The wreck of the Faithful Steward was documented September 1785 in the Pennsylvania Gazette, and November 1785 in the Daily Universal Register of London. Much information on The Faithful Steward can be found on the internet. Coins from the ship have been found on "Delaware's Coin Beach". On January 4 1786 The Pennsylvania Packet newspaper listed the names of passengers that included the name "Simon Ellist [Ellit]. Of the 240 passengers and crew only 68 were said to have survived. The list of passengers and crew had only 71 listed. A full list of passengers has not been found.
