The bounty record states that he was paid a $50 bounty while at Camp William Penn where he mustered in for 100 days.

The board of relief application gives his wife's name as Tanny Bell (aged 43) and son Samuel Bell (7 ½ ).

It also states that he mustered into the 100 day service on July 20, 1864 and reenlisted into the 41st USCT on September 28, 1864.

He mustered out September 30, 1865 at Edinburg, Texas .

There is no mention of him being wounded so it doesn't appear that he was killed in action. He likely died of disease that was contracted while in camp.
