Deryl C. "Theed" Baker, of North Charlestown, died February 17, 2007. He was born in Pawlet, VT on April 22, 1920 the son of Loren and Julia (Cone) Baker, and has resided in Charlestown since 1945.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army, entering the service on January 31, 1944 as a medical corpsman at Fort Devens, MA. He was discharged on May 4, 1946. Deryl received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal. He was stationed at Rockford, IL, Fort Eustis, VA and Camp Patrick Henry, VA.

Deryl worked briefly at J & L Machine Company, and worked for 33 years at the Claremont Paper Mill as a yardman, shipping clerk and supervisor, retiring in 1979. He later worked for 7 years at Developmental Services of Sullivan County.

He was a member of the NH American Legion.

He married Irene Kinney on January 11, 1945. They celebrated 62 years of marriage this year. Theed, a soft-spoken man of few words, enjoyed classic cars, woodworking and refurbishing older homes.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, his daughters, Jennifer Baker, and her husband Mark Guerrlich, and Brenda Baker, and her husband Dana Larmie all of Charlestown; He is also survived by a son, Jeffrey Baker and his wife, Ginny Baker of Claremont, NH. Deryl's grandsons include Joseph Fischer and his wife Alethia, Benjamin Fischer and his fiancée Trisha Lally, T. Heath Fischer and his wife Raquel, Gavin Sawyer, Scott Deryl Baker and his wife Karen, Larsson Baker and Franklin Guerrlich; granddaughters include Brittney Baker and Jackelyn Baker. His great-grandchildren are Lauryn Fischer, Cassidy Fischer and Joseph C. Fischer. Theed is also survived by two sisters, Jean Duncan and Harriette Shaw. His surviving brothers are Elmer Baker and Kenneth Baker, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Medric Baker, Charles Baker, Milton "Pat" Baker and Robert Baker, as well as his sisters, Pearl Kelley and Mary Eastman.

A graveside committal service will be held April 28th in Pine Crest Cemetery in Charlestown.
