Rites Wednesday for Mrs. Wesley Bartlow
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Ellen Rockwell Bartlow were conducted Wednesday afternoon June 28, at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church, Lake Benton. The Rev. Calvin Rossman officiated at teh service. A group of ladies sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset", Mrs Hans Meyer playing the accompaniment.
Pallbearers were Hans Meyer, Peter Nielsen, Knute Petersen, Jams Cravens, Roy Christopherson and James Howe, Burial was in the Diamond Lake cemetery.
Sarah Ellen Rokwell was one of twin daughters to Richard and Laura Rockwell. She was born in a log cabin on a farm near Martinsville, Illinois, August 1, 1885. Her life came to an end June 25, 1961, at Tyler hospital. She had been in failing health for some time.
Sarah Ellen and her twin sister were next to the youngest of seven children. She was educated in the public school near Martinsville and there she grew into womanhood. When she was 17 years old she was baptized in the Christian faith in the Baptist church in her home community.
After completing her schooling she worked as a cook in a Martinsville Hotel, and later advanced to cooking for crews in the oil fields. It was there that she met Wesley Bartlow to whom she was married on July 26, 1908. To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive.
Three years after their marriage, the Bartlows moved to Minnesota where they began farming in Clifton township, Lyon County. They remained in that community for almost forty yers, then moved to a farm near Lake Benton where they have since resided.
Mrs Bartlow was always most interested in her home and family and enjoyed them to the fullest. She enjoyed working in her garden, and just the day before she was taken ill she was tending to her little plot of ground. She was a member of the congregation of Diamond Lake Lutheran church at the time of her death.
Surviving are her husband, Wesley, and chridren; Mrs. Alice Cahow of Tyler, Miss Fern Bartlow at home, Mrs. Cleo Kor ofMarshall and sons, Ernest of Arco, Wayne of Bellgarden, Calif.; Harold of Balaton, Manley at home , and Donald of California.
