Marilyn Ruth Patterson (1930 - 2013)

Marilyn went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 26, with her husband, William C. Patterson Jr., by her side. Her family was with her the days preceding her graduation to Heaven.

Marilyn was born to Josephine and Ralph Moehlman on August 23, 1930, in Molene, Ill. She and her parents moved from Illinois to California when Marilyn was three years old, where her father was employed as a carpenter for Warner Brothers Studios. Her younger sister, Jeanenne was born in California five years later. They lived in Panarama City and Marilyn graduated from Van Nuys High School. She was a model for a large department store in Los Angeles for three years (ages 16-19).

She met her husband, William C. Patterson Jr. on a blind date that was arranged by Bill's friend from high school. Bill and Marilyn were married on August 11, 1949. Marilyn had her first child, Lauri Ann, when she was 21 years old. Three years later she had her second child, Teri Lynn. Marilyn devoted herself to her Lord, her husband, her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing woman of faith and was a great encourager to her family and many others. She had a wonderful sense of humor, very sharp wit and a heart of gold that left a mark on those around her.

Marilyn was very active in her church, which she and her husband started attending in 1962. She taught Sunday School, was the president of a women's group at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, was a deaconess and attended several different Bible Studies. She had a passion for Missions and was in charge of 'One Great Hour of Sharing' for many years. Marilyn attended Moorpark College and graduated with a degree in Library Science; she loved to read! Marilyn retired from the State Department of Rehabilitation, where she served as Office Manager in the Thousand Oaks Branch. After retiring, Marilyn and Bill enjoyed traveling and camping in their trailer. In 2012, Marilyn and Bill celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary and have shared many wonderful years together!

Marilyn is survived by her husband, William C. Patterson Jr. of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; her two daughters, Lauri Kappen (David) of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Teri Lucas (Ralph) of Oakhurst, Calif.; her four grandchildren, William L. Kappen (fiance Sarah Holt), Hilary Lucas, Sally Goldberg (Barrett) and Casey Lucas (Alyssa).

Marilyn's parents, sister and brother-in-law preceded her in death. Marilyn was dearly loved by her family and will be missed deeply.

A private Graveside service for the family will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. A Celebration of her Life service will be held at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 588 Camino Manzanas, Thousand Oaks, Calif. 91360, on Feb. 16, at 11 a.m.
