Emmett "Whitt" Edmonds of Halifax died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at South Boston Manor at the age of 71.
Mr. Edmonds was born in Richmond on Nov. 30, 1937, to the late Mr. Walter Edmonds and Mrs. Marria Edmonds. He was a member of Banister Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Doretha Edmonds and Ms. Natisha Edmonds, both of Richmond, Mrs. Cheryl Grymes of Washington, DC and Mrs. Sandra Whitlock of Halifax; two sons, Mr. Emmett Edmonds Jr. and Mr. Calvin Edmonds, both of Richmond; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Mrs. Beatrince Womack of Washington, DC, Mrs. Beulah Florence of Greensboro, NC, Ms. Emily Brown of Ebony, Mrs. Bessie Flether, Mrs. Vanessa Harris, Mrs. Bonnie Williams and Mrs. Ivaiva Gilthris, all of Richmond; two brothers, Mr. Larry Edmonds and Mr. Haywood Edmonds, both of Richmond; 10 step-children; three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Edmonds was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Albert Edmonds.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 21. at noon at Banister Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, North Main Street, South Boston.
