PAULINY - Steve. Sunday, October 19, 2008, Heaven rejoices upon receiving their new angel.
Born March 9, 1925 in Ilasco, MO, to Slovak parents, John and Eva. In 1943, he joined the US Navy to become a member of the V-12 program in Fayette, MO. He was extremely proud of his 3 1/2 years service in the Pacific Theater, Amphibious Forces.
After WWII, he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia under the GI Bill, where he earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1949. Upon graduation, he accepted a position with General Electric as a Test Engineer, which relocated him to St. Louis, MO, Eric, PA, and Lynn, MA. He earned a second BS degree in Chemistry at MIT, and met and married his wife of 59 years, Norma. The couple transferred to Cincinnati, OH, with GE in 1951. In 1955, Steve joined American Airlines in Tulsa, where he worked over 37 years as a Development Engineer until his retirement, then 8 years as a consultant.
He had always been proud of his Czechoslovakian roots, and was active with the Slovak community. He had been a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, most notably as a member of Grace Lutheran Church, which he loved dearly. Steve was a tireless volunteer for Meals on Wheels, which honored him with a citywide award for his 18 years of service. He enjoyed car and tractor shows, country music, ballgames, golf, fishing, hunting, traveling, and was a lifelong fan of his Mizzou Tigers. He also enjoyed lunches with other American Airlines retirees, and dinners with his fellow American veterans.
He is survived by: his wife, Norma; sons, Steve and John; daughter, Donna Rhyne and husband, Mitchell; and beloved granddaughter, Heather Rhyne, all of Tulsa. He is also survived by: his sister, Helen McGarrah and husband, Joe of Austin, TX; his sister, Anne Runge of Anaheim, CA; and brother, Paul Pauliny of Wyalusing, PA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Moore's Rosewood Chapel 8-8 pm, Wednesday, and the family will receive family and friends from 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at 10 am, on Thursday. Interment at Grace Lutheran Church in the Columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church in honor of Steve Pauliny. Moore Rosewood Chapel, 744-1202.
