Born in Madison County Georgia. Sergeant Isaac Moore, one of Capt. Dabney Gholston's soldiers, mentions his Captain several times in his diary (http://www.knoxscv.org/csa.htm).
Lucinda Caroline Wills, now the only daughter, was born in September 1831. She married Dabney L. Gholston and he went off to war on the 4th of July 1862. Two years later, Lucinda became a Confederate widow when her husband was killed in August 1864.
Killed Company E, 37th Infantry Regiment Georgia on 31 Aug 1864 at Jonesboro, GA.
"Capt. Gholston, a 35-year-old school teacher, was killed in action on the Aug. 31, 1864, in Jonesboro where many soldiers were killed. At the railroad site, hundreds of men were buried in a mass grave."
