She was first married to John Russell (1815-) on 19 Oct 1837, in Crown Point, Indiana by William F. Talbot, V. D. M.. She obtained the first divorce in Lake County, IN in 1838, taken from a book titled - Lake County, Indiana, From 1834-1872 by Rev. T. H. Ball, Crown Point, Indiana, published Chicago 1873. The book is inscribed as follows: Presented to Harriet Albee by her brother William, August 2, 1872.

Harriett's mother, Mrs. Alexander (Harriett) Warner Holton, was the first teacher whose name is on record here. She also was one of the pioneer women in the country coming in Feb. 1835 and still living in Crown Point in 1872.
There is a memorial for her honoring her as a teacher in Crown Point.
