Center resident Floyd Chavez Sr., 66, passed away April 2, 2010 in Denver. Floyd was born to Ben and Delia Chavez on Nov. 6, 1943 in San Luis, Colo.
Floyd was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and friend. His family, friends, fishing, hunting and working hard were the primary aspects of his life. He was also a member of the Center Town Board for eight years, he enjoyed playing bingo and was also a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. Floyd was also an integral part of all family functions and was always there to make you smile and laugh.
Floyd was preceded in death by his mother Delia Trujillo, sister Ruth Chavez and brother Elias Chavez.
He is survived by his loving wife Mabel Chavez of Center; daughter Janet (Guillermo) Zapata of Ft. Collins, son Pastor Gilbert (Lori) Chavez of Cheyenne, Wyo., son Lucas (Jennifer) Chavez of Center, daughter Lynette (Wade) Langer of Center and son Floyd Chavez Jr. of Center; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as his father Ben Chavez of Center, brother Steve Chavez of Sheridan, Wyo., brother Reverend Henry (Vangie) Chavez of Quito, Ecuador, brother Reverend Jimmy (Elsie) Chavez of Taos, N.M., brother Bernie (Patsy) Chavez of Sheridan, sister Diane (Joe) Romero of Center and other extended relatives and loving friends also survive. He will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of all who loved and knew him.
A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held April 9 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Center Assembly of God. A Celebration of Life service will be held April 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Center Assembly of God with Reverend Henry Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at the Center Assembly of God Cemetery in La Garita. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mabel Chavez to help cover the expenses at Mabel Chavez P.O. Box 545, Center, CO 81125.
