Philip was ushered into heaven, surrounded by all his children and his very caring Pastor Rich, where he joined his wife of 63 years, Doris 'Nadine' (Bixler) Glatfelter, who passed away Monday, December 15, 2008.

Philip was a farmer in Manheim Twp. for over 40 years, where he raised crops, chickens and children. As his second job, he retired from PennDot in 1987 as a Road Supervisor.

He was a life member of Greenmount United Methodist Church where he served as the Sunday School Teacher Superintendent for 20 plus years, after which he was a lay leader for another 20 plus years, and served as a member on their PPR committee Philip was on the Board of the Quincy U.M. home/orphanage, and was instrumental in bringing the Normandie Ridge U.M. home to York County. He was a member of the Gideon's 20 International organization as past camp president, treasurer and was an acting current chaplain.

He belonged to the York County Christian Business Men's Association, as well as having served for many years on both the Southwestern and York County Vo-Tech School Boards, and York County Planning Advisory Commission.

Mr. Glatfelter was born, with his twin sister, Phyllis Greenplate of Jacobus, on April 6, 1926, in Codorus Township, son to the late Ralph D. and Gertrude (Sterner) Glatfelter.

Philip leaves three daughters, Judy (John) Weaver of York, Joan Marchio of Glen Rock, and Joy GlatfelterJones (Greg) of Glen Rock; six sons, James (Patricia) of Dover, Jay of Dallastown, Jerry (Alice) of York, Joel (Ruth) of Jefferson, John (Lesa) of Owings Mills, Md., and Jerome (Trina) of Seven Valleys; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and 14 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Chadwick Craig and Lisa Glatfelter; and two brothers, Roy D. Glatfelter and Sterling K. Glatfelter.

Burial will be in Greenmount United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Philip will always be remembered for his service to community, church and family where he has touched many many lives.
