Her Life and Legacy

On March 22, 1962, a darling angel was born to Jessie L. Coleman and the late Willie Johnson. They named her Marietta "Candy". She was the joy that brought smiles to the entire family.

Being reared by her loving mother, the late Ms. Oleaner "Missy" Green, who preceded her in death, she was taught and grew up trusting in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she served until the day of her demise.

She attended the schools of East Carroll Parish, graduating from Lake Providence Senior High in 1980. She later furthered her education by attending Delta College and Robinson Business College in Monroe, LA , Candy was also a graduate of the Police Academy at the University of Louisiana.

Employed as a police officer for the Lake Providence PoliceDepartment for twenty years, as a dispatcher for the East Carroll Sheriff Department, and as Deputy Sheriff at the East Carroll Detention Center, Marietta enjoyed working in Corrections until her health failed. She confessed Christ on July 19, 1972 and baptized by the late Rev. Fred Jones, Sr. She became an active and faithful member of Cain Ridge #2 under the leadership of Rev. Jessie C. Knight. She was member of the choir as well as the community choir at the Baptist Center, Sunday school secretary, and a member of Eureka Chapter #64 Order of Eastern Star. On Sunday, June 8, 2014, God saw that she was getting weary, so he gently whispered to his angel ‘Candy, come home and take your rest."

She leaves to carry on her legacy her son, John R. Jackson, who was the apple of her eye; a special play sister Ranata (Mitchell) Lewis, Mother, Jessie L. Coleman of Lake Providence, one brother, Frederick (Alicia) Jackson of Lake Providence, one sister, Rosetta Jackson, Monroe, LA, a special uncle, Ben Jones.
