He was educated at St. Charles College Missouri and had just completed his course when the excitement caused by the gold rush discoveries in California caused an exodus from the western states to the Pacific Coast. He went there in 1849 and died on Oct 28, 1850 among strangers and in a strange land. He was accompanied by a young relative, Benjamin Palmer, who died at the same time. The two young men were buried side by side, but the location of the graves is unknown, as there is no stone to mark their last resting place.”.
