Harold E. Geltz, 80, of Bethel Township died Friday (March 7, 2003) in Kittanning Care Center, Kittanning Township. He was born July 17, 1922, in Dover, Ohio. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 101st Airborne Division in the battles at Normandy, Bastion and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart. He was a truck driver for the General Nutrition Company, and traveled to every state in the continental United States. Mr. Geltz was a member of Cochran Mills United Methodist Church in Burrell Township. He enjoyed fishing, going to camp, woodworking, and collecting antique toy cars. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Doreen Sawyer Geltz; two sons, David Geltz of Vandergrift and Daniel Geltz of Ford City; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Margie (Zigmond) KIimkowicz of Ford City; and a half sister, Mary Katherine Piatt of Missouri. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Birdwell; his parents, Enos and Mildred Shull Geltz; his step mother, Katherine Regula Geltz; and an infant sister, Betty Geltz. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the MANTINI FUNERAL HOME INC., 701 Sixth Ave., Ford City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cochran Mills United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Cleary officiating. Burial will be in Cochran Mills Cemetery, Burrell Township.
