Sam as he was normally called, married Elizabeth Jane King about 1875 in Crawford Co., Kansas, daughter of Joseph King and Rebecca Coffman. She was born Sept.2,1855 in Indiana, and died Dec. 26, 1940 in Cushing, Payne Co., Oklahoma.
In 1883, Sam and Elizabeth Blackburn made the Cherokee Strip Land Run, with there son John William age 6 at the time, settling on a farm four and one half miles northwest of Cushing, where they lived till Sam's death in 1920.
