Donald E. Parsons, of Grayslake, Illinois, died February 19, 2012. Born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on December 7, 1934, to Forrest H. and Caroline W. Parsons, he graduated from Truman State University and the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. He is survived by his wife, Jean Parsons, a son and his wife, Devin and Amber Parsons, two grandsons, Gavin and Ian Parsons, two brothers, Richard and Jack Parsons, a sister, Judy Mostofi and many nieces and nephews. He was a teacher, coach, and administrator for many years in Ottumwa, Iowa, where he also served the community in other leadership roles. After retiring, he and his wife lived in the Hot Springs, Arkansas, area where he was active in Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and the Pastoral council at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. In 1986 he was inducted into the Truman State University Athletic Hall of Fame. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday February 24, 2012 at 10:30am, following a visitation starting at 10:00am at St. Paul the Apostle Church 6401 Gages Lake Rd. Gurnee, IL. Interment will be at the columbarium at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, Il 60030.
