D. Earl Barnes, 93, of Urbana, died at noon Saturday, Dec. 16, 1995 at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana.

Services were Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Urbana. Rev. David Alberts officiated. Graveside services were at Ebenezer Cemetery in Olney at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mittendorf-Ca1vert-Morgan Funeral Home in Urbana.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church, the Exchange Club of Urbana or Gideon International.

Barnes was born Jan. 12, 1902 in Richland County, the son of Harvey and Cora F. (Ratcliffe) Barnes. He married Bernice Evelyn Howe Feb. 16, 1927 in Calhoun. She preceded him in death July 19, 1985

He was a grain and dairy farmer and ran a neighborhood grocery store in Urbana. He was a realtor for many years and was a past president and member of the Champaign County Board of Realtors and the Exchange Club of Urbana. He served on the Urbana City Council and the Champaign County Board, and was a member of Gideon's Association, the Ambassador's Club and the First United Church in Urbana.

He is survived by four sons, Clyde O. Barnes, of Champaign, Norville E. Barnes of Brockville, Ontario, Canada, Donald L. Barnes, of Urbana, and Walter R. Barnes, of Lakeland, Fla.; four daughters Evelyn I. Goens, of Mesa, Ariz., Winona M. Parker, of Ventura, Calif., Wanda K. Yonce, of Urbana, and Sheryl J. Knutson, of Amboy; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Barnes, of Oklahoma; and one sister, Mary Ballard, of Kansas,

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter, two granddaughters and one sister.
