Randy Lee "Abe" Abrahamson was born on March 2, 1956 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Archie and Anita (Ryberg) Abrahamason. Randy grew up on a dairy farm owned and operated by his parents near Almelund, Minn. He attended school in North Branch where he enjoyed and excelled in athletics, including wresting, football, baseball and cross country running.
While in high school, Randy was an individual regional wresting champion multiple years and competed at the Minnesota State tournament. He was given a letter in cross country and wresting in the same season. He was awarded the North Branch athletic award his senior year in 1974. He was also awarded an athletic scholarship to attend Itasca Community College, competing on both the wresting team and football team.
Randy was a self-taught, skilled contractor and continued working on countless projects in and around Bayfield and Ashland counties in Wisconsin including Madeline Island until 2009.
Baseball and soft ball were lifelong passions for Randy. He played with countless teams over the years. Most noteablely, his interests in baseball lead him to an invitation to try out for the Duluth Dukes a northern minor league baseball team. He pitched both baseball and softball. Only after reaching 45 years old did he stopping pitching and he still continued to play until his health would not permit him.
Randy is known as the "fun uncle" by his nieces and nephews. Not only was he interested in tossing a softball, he's favorite thing to say was "we gotta go fishing" and would do so at every possible opportunity. He loved taking others with him to enjoy the water and the quiet of the lakes.
He is survived by girlfriend, Melissa Dardar, Children Jennifer (Joe) Ortiz of Casa Grande, AZ, David (Holly) Abrahamson of Queen Creek, AZ and Hannah Lewis of Marshfield, WI, brother Daryl (Julie) Abrahamson of North Branch; sister Cyndy (Paul) Tubbs of Rush City; sister Teresa (Curt) Carlson of Chisago City; sister in law Vickie Abrahamson, half-sister Darcy Brandenburg (Tad Ericson), half-sister Debra Brandenburg many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie Abrahamson, Anita (Ryberg) Abrahamson, brother, Steven Abrahamson, half-brother, Von Brandenburg and grandparents.
4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch and one hour prior to service at church on Friday.
11:00 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund.
