He is said to be the son of David and OK-LA-FA-LAY-A Choate. He was married to Winnie Ward and two other women. Winnie died in 1840. He came to Indian Territory about 1854. He was shot while sitting in a chair in his front yard. Father of John A., Lillian, Allen G., David C., Samuel S., James S., Sarah M., and George Washington.
James C. Choate, brought the family to the Canadian River bottom lands near Indianola, Okla. in 1854. The Choate Prairie area is named for his family. The log house built in 1867, has been preserved on the Bynum Property as a museum and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
