Charles G. Aspinwall
Charles G. Aspinwall, 90, died Friday afternoon, at his home in
He was born in 1916 in Westville, the son of Glenn and Alice (Moore)
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Velma (Hay) Aspinwall in
Surviving to cherish his legacy is a son, Wesley (Barbara) Aspinwall
of Epping, N.H.; and a daughter, Alma (Dan) Scaggs of Mexico;
three grandchildren, Lee (Timmielyn) Scaggs of Ogdensburg, Carl
Aspinwall of Derry, N.H., and Susan Aspinwall of Epping, N.H.;
and one great-grandchild, Jacob C. Scaggs. He is also survived by
a brother-in-law, Kendall Hay and wife Charlotte of Oneonta.
He was a World War II veteran, serving as a D/F Evaluator in
Prestwick, Scotland, until 1945.
He received a bachelor's degree in education from Oneonta Teachers
College and a master's degree in science education from Syracuse
He taught in various schools until he moved to Mexico in 1947 to
teach at Mexico Academy and Central School until his retirement
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge,
American Legion and the VFW. He was also an active ham radio
One of his greatest sources of pride came from his former students,
many of whom have remained close friends throughout life. He
marveled at their accomplishments and contributions to society.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 20, at the Harter
Funeral Home, 9 Washington Ave., Mexico.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian
Church in Mexico.
Burial will be in Westville Cemetery in Milford.
Contributions may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico.
