These included farming early on, and operating a feed store in downtown Inola in the late 1950's, where Esther kept the books and ran the front office.

Always a mother first, Esther was a tremendous homemaker. She was always gardening, sewing, and most notably cooking. She was well known for her pies, breads and jellies. Later when the youngest children were old enough, she worked seventeen years at the Longhorn Café, where the townspeople came to enjoy her cooking as well.
