Wenona, IL - Verna Louise Richard, 80, of 214 N. Hickory St. in Wenona died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, in St. Mary's Hospital in Streator, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Richard was born March 13, 1928, in Pekin to Gerald and Mabel Kief Hall Sr. She married R. Alan Richard in Pekin on March 3,1951.
She was a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator for 40 years, 25 of those years in the surgical unit.
Mrs. Richard graduated from Pekin High School in 1946 and from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1949.
She was a school board member for Wenona School District, an election judge, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and tutored children in Wenona schools. She was active in Bethany Lutheran Church, Bethany Women of WELCA, church council, and was a lector.
Mrs. Richard was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, wife and friend to many.
She is survived by her husband, Allan of Wenona; one daughter, Katherine (Richard) Groetken of Normal; one son, Scott (Roanna) Richard of Toluca; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mary Katherine (Morris) Dupent of Pekin; three brothers, Gerald "Bill" (Terry) Hall Jr. of Pekin, Raymond (Karen) Hall of Pekin and John "Jack" (Pam) Hall of Pekin; brother-in-law, Dale (Bonnie) Richard of Wenona; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Earl) Richardson of Coal City.
She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Richard; and one grandson, Benjamin Richard.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Flanigan, Brian Richard, Randall Warner, Robert Nelson, and Kevin and Keith Coons.
Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Wenona.
