Elliott Blankenship Burley, 90, of 140 Melody Lane, Monroe died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999 in Guggenheimer Nursing Home. He was the husband of Eunice Gibson Whitesell Burley. He was born August 12, 1908 in Amherst County, a son of the late Lucian DuVal Burley and Maggie Gillespie Burley. He retired from Lynchburg Training School and Hospital, an Army Veteran and was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lisa Michelle Evans. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Sam Whitesell and his wife, Sharon of Lynchburg; two daughters, Linda Evans and her husband, Clifton of Madison Heights and Kathy Armstrong and her husband, Jon of McLean; one grandson, Clifton Evans, Jr. of Madison Heights and a number of nieces and nephews including two devoted nieces, Kitty Meredith of Lynchburg and Joanne Bryant of Madison Heights. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Sardis United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jack Bartee. Interment will be in Tudor Hall Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:30-5 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
