Amelia was born in Canada to Willard W. Parks and Mary Wager. She married Francis Lowell Hobart 6 Mar 1881 in Cherokee, Cherokee, Iowa. They divorced sometime between 1887 and 1892.
They had three children: Tenney May Hobart, Dr. Agnes Jane Hobart and Rosa D. Hobart. Tenney married Donald Hallahan, Agnes married Archie Doty (he died from a ruptured appendix in 1916) and Walter Gettys and Rosa married Nels Jorgensen.
Amelia was admitted several times to Cherokee Mental Hospital. She suffered from severe neuralgia which she may have inherited from her father. He had a severe form of tic doloureux. Amelia's medical condition led to her becoming paralyzed in her upper and lower extremities and delusional. Her admission dates were Dec. 10, 1906, Nov. 5, 1910, Oct. 17, 1913, and Feb. 10, 1916. She died there Oct. 10, 1926 of congestive heart failure.
Her daughter, Agnes, became a doctor because of her mother's condition and later worked on the psychiatric ward of the Alameda County Hospital in Oakland, California.
