PEORIA, IL - Harlan W. Thomas, 84, of Peoria died at 4:39 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Born Nov. 3, 1924, in Secor, a son of Adam and Martha Fischer Thomas, he married Ella E. Mazie Eberhardt on April 15, 1951, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Lois (Al) Boaz and Barb Thomas, both of Peoria and Peggy (Jeff) Cooke of Oakland Township, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Robbie Boaz, Lisa Boaz, Erin (Jason) Kolter and Cassie Cooke.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Thomas was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for 42 years, retiring in 1985 as Manager of International Services in Compensation and Benefits.
He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Republic of Philippine Islands and New Guinea.
Active in volunteer work, he had served as the treasurer of his church, worked in the food pantry at Friendship House in Peoria and served as a Blue Coat at Proctor Hospital in Peoria for many years.
He was especially devoted to his faith in Jesus Christ, his wife, children and grandchildren, along with his many friends.
He was a member of the Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church in Peoria, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. tomorrow at the church prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery near Edwards.
