George Joseph Maas, age 68, of Brook Park, Minn., formerly of Fridley, passed away on Feb. 28, 2009, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

George was born Jan. 13, 1941, at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis to Walter and Frances (Fremouw) Maas. George was a graduate of De La Salle, Class of 1959. He met the love of his life, Karin (Heil), while on active duty for the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany. They married Nov. 16, 1963.

George was an avid hunter and loved to make things grow. Produce, including pumpkins, potatoes, onions and beans were his specialty. Many times he could be found puttering in the fields on his beloved Moline tractor, taking the grandkids on tractor rides and teaching the grandkids how to drive the tractors.

George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karin; children Thomas, Andrew (Sherri), Rick (Candi) and Heidi; grandchildren Melanie, Bethany, Mitchell, Hunter, Jacob and Jordyn; brothers Frank (Kathy), Walt (Heather); sisters Jean (Jim), Maria, Alice (George) and Gloria; sister-in-law Lare Creter; and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by an infant son, Ralph, his parents Walter and Frances, sister Irene and his beloved hunting partner, Bell.

A funeral service was on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Braham with celebrants Fr Nicholas Zimmer and Deacon Tom Pinataro. Music was provided by Joni Nelson. Casket bearers were Mike Maas, David Maas, Steve Maas, Melanie Maas, Mitchell Maas, Jacob Maas, Hunter Maas and Jordyn Maas. Interment was in the Brook Park Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were with the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham.
