Baptised 12 August 1743 Overwharton Parish, Stafford, Virginia.

Inscription: In memory of JOHN ALLEN who departed this life Dec 8th 1822 Aged 79 Years

Notes:
He served in the Revolutionary War under Lt. Col. Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, in 1779. In February 1779 he is listed as corporal. His unit was Co. A, 2nd S.C. Regiment. He most likely moved to South Carolina before the Revolution.

By 1786, he moved his family to Spartanburg County, S.C., to an area that later became the town of Woodruff. His brother-in-law, Joseph Woodruff, moved at the same time from Surry County, N.C.

John Peter Allen and his wife Elizabeth (Lindsay) was accepted into Bethel Baptist Church there in Woodruff in 1788. He died in 1822 and is buried at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
