Jerry Johnson, Sr., a retired employee of the Baton Rouge Police Department with 30 years of service, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. He was 63, a resident of East Baton Rouge Parish and native of Wilkinson County, Miss.
Viewing at Starhill Baptist Church until a community tribute. Visiting at Second Baptist Church, Port Allen, until service, conducted by Pastor Larry James. Interment in Second Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Hall Davis & Son Funeral Home.
Survived by his spouse, Jennifer Y. Johnson; daughters, Robin Johnson, Mallery J. (Michael) Geran, Cynthia J. (Darrell) Celestine and Keisha A. (Lloyd) Videau; sons, Jerry Johnson, Jr., Quentin J. Johnson, Derrick Boyds, Corey Boyds and Darryl (Tynsha) Johnson; brothers, Jimmy Johnson (Nell) and Roger Johnson; 17 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and Man's Best Friend Trustworthy "Scooby".
Preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Laners and Clara Johnson; maternal grandparents, St. Claire Johnson and Maggie Bethany; stepson, Michael Johnson; and his faithful companion, "Charlie", Man's Best Friend.
He was a 1969 graduate of Capitol Senior High and ordained in 1970. He served as legislative assistant to Councilman W.T. Winnfield and the late Pearl George and served as advisory board member to Councilwoman C. Denise Marcelle. He was a member of Gus Young Non Violence Civic Association as executive secretary and chaplain.
